You will need to demonstrate your ability to safely and effectively rescue and resuscitate a person from an electrocution scenario in a simulated work environment. The rescue will be timed.

This will involve:

  • Performing a risk assessment
  • Isolating an electrical supply as appropriate to the scenario
  • Removing a victim from a dangerous situation
  • Using a fire blanket safely and effectively
  • Following the DRSABCD process for resuscitation
  • Performing 2 continuous minutes of CPR on an adult and child manikin
  • Performing 2 operator CPR
  • Reacting to a victim vomiting or regurgitating<.li>
  • Safely applying an AED to a victim of cardiac arrest
  • Preserving the scene of the incident
  • Providing a verbal report of the incident to your trainer

Prerequisite

This unit requires the pre-requisite HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which is included and delivered as an integral part of this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends that CPR competence (which is a core skill of this course), be refreshed at least every 12 months to stay current with best practice and guidelines. Because competency changes over time and requires regular updating, Nexa Training views RPL (which might accept older evidence) as not suitable for ensuring candidates have current, up-to-date CPR (and rescue) skills.

Accordingly RPL is NOT offered to candidates of this course.
