Requirements

  • A computer, tablet or smartphone with an inbuilt camera and access to the internet for the online component of the course
  • Identification document, such as a driver's license or passport
  • Ability to attend our training centre for the practical component, appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn when in the training environment
  • A level 3 English Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skill level, use our free LLN Tool to evaluate your abilities
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI), find or get your USI here
  • Equipment supplied

    You will be supplied with relevant and appropriate equipment including:

    • adult and infant resuscitation manikins following ARC guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures
    • workplace first aid kit
    • adrenaline auto-injector training device
    • AED training devices
    • placebo bronchodilator and spacer device
    • different types of wound dressings and bandages
    • blankets and items to treat for shock
    • personal protective equipment (PPE)

    Assessments

    Our comprehensive online assessment is designed to evaluate your knowledge and skills through a variety of question formats. Expect a combination of multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, and video response questions. This diverse approach ensures a thorough understanding of the material, allowing you to demonstrate your competency effectively and conveniently from any location.

    There are practical assessments to complete. You must complete and pass all assessments to complete the course and attain the certification.

    During the practical assessment, you will need to demonstrate your ability to safely and effectively deal with a simulated emergency scenario. This will involve:

    • demonstrating emergency action plan DRSABCD and managing an unconscious breathing casualty
    • making a verbal report to you about the information to be passed on to the first response team about the CPR incident they responded to corresponding to the IMISTAMBO or ISBAR acronym
    • responding to one community or workplace contextualised scenario where the candidate has no knowledge of the casualty's condition prior to starting treatment
    • participating in a post-incident debrief and evaluation of own performance for a scenarios
