HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Learn the skills and knowledge necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
First Aid is the immediate and temporary care given to someone experiencing an accident or sudden illness until medical help arrives. The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) develops and maintains national guidelines for first aid and CPR, with all resources available for free on their website.
This unit outlines the skills and knowledge necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

- AED training devices
- personal protective equipment (PPE)
There are practical assessments to complete. You must complete and pass all assessments to complete the course and attain the certification.
During the practical assessment, you will need to demonstrate your ability to safely and effectively deal with a simulated emergency scenario. This will involve:
- Demonstrating an emergency action plan and managing an unconscious breathing casualty
- Demonstrating uninterrupted adult and infant CPR for a minimum of 2 minutes for at least 5 cycles
- Attaching and followed the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Make a verbal report to you about the information to be passed on to the first response team about the CPR incident they responded to corresponding to the IMISTAMBO or ISBAR acronym
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends that CPR competence be refreshed at least every 12 months to stay current with best practice and guidelines. Because competency changes over time and requires regular updating, Nexa Training views RPL (which might accept older evidence) as not suitable for ensuring candidates have current, up-to-date CPR skills.
Accordingly RPL is NOT offered to candidates of this course.
