This accredited course is perfect for educators and support staff who need to handle first aid emergencies in education and care settings, particularly those involving asthma and anaphylaxis. The training follows current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, National Asthma Council protocols, and ASCIA (Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy) guidelines.

Our comprehensive online assessment evaluates your knowledge through multiple-choice, true/false, short answer, and video response questions. You must complete and pass all assessments to attain certification.
During the practical assessment, you will demonstrate your ability to respond to simulated emergency scenarios:
Anaphylaxis scenarios
- Assessing risks and hazards and identifying the cause
- Recognising signs of allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
- Following an ASCIA Action Plan
- Administering adrenaline auto-injector (Epipen and Anapen)
- Monitoring response and knowing when to administer second dose
- Safe tick removal using freeze method
- Positioning casualties appropriately including recovery position
- Providing handover to paramedics (IMIST-AMBO)
- Completing post-incident review and updating risk management strategies
Asthma scenarios
- Assessing risks and hazards and identifying triggers
- Recognising asthma symptoms across severity levels
- Following personal Asthma Action Plans and NAC 4-step protocol
- Administering pMDI with spacer (adult, child, and infant techniques)
- Adapting approach when standard methods aren't effective
- Monitoring casualties and escalating to emergency services
- Providing handover to paramedics (IMIST-AMBO)
- Completing incident reports and post-incident review
- Conducting defusing sessions
RPL is not available for 22702VIC or 22578VIC. These courses have mandatory practical assessment components requiring demonstration with current asthma and anaphylaxis emergency equipment. Training must reflect devices currently available in Australia and align with Victorian Department of Education requirements, Ministerial Order 706, and ACECQA requirements.
Given the short course duration and critical life-saving nature of these skills, competency cannot be established through documentary evidence alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who should complete this course?
This course is designed for educators, childcare workers, school staff, aged care workers, and anyone who may need to respond to asthma or anaphylaxis emergencies in a workplace setting. It meets requirements for Victorian schools (Ministerial Order 706), ACECQA-regulated services, and general workplace first aid obligations.
How long does the course take?
The course takes approximately 8 hours in total – 4 hours of online learning completed in your own time, plus 4 hours of practical assessment at our training centre.
How long is my certification valid?
Both 22702VIC and 22578VIC are valid for 3 years. For anaphylaxis, annual refresher training in adrenaline injector device use (VU23090) is also recommended. Victorian schools and ACECQA-regulated services require currency to be maintained, so ensure you renew before your certification expires.
What certification will I receive?
You will receive a Statement of Attainment for 22702VIC – Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies in the Workplace (units VU24021 and VU24022) and 22578VIC – Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis (units VU23090 and VU23091).
Can I do the courses separately?
Yes. 22702VIC (asthma) and 22578VIC (anaphylaxis) can be completed as standalone courses or together as a combined course.
Is RPL available?
No. These courses require practical demonstration with current emergency equipment and cannot be completed through Recognition of Prior Learning.
